Problems with the gums may result from the build up of plaque and tartar which is not removed and gums may be irritated may cause bleeding and swollen gums to occur. So, if you are suffering from plaque or tartar build up, your teeth may need to be scaled or polished so as to be able to reduce bacterial plaque build up as well as, the risk for gum disease. When plaque is left not removed on the surface of the teeth through brushing and flossing, it can eventually harden into tartar that firmly sticks on teeth. And if necessary, your teeth can then be polished to get rid of any marks or stains on teeth.
