The elderly constitute one third of the 22,000 patients treated each year at the Baylor College of Dentistry, which is part of the Health Sciences Center of Texas A & M. The dental clinic of the faculty of Dallas offers discounts on a wide range of dental services. The clinic for undergraduate charges less than half that charged by private dentists for some procedures But the university assesses potential patients to make sure that their needs dental match their needs for education, said Dean Hudson, associate dean for clinical affairs.
"It's been a good alternative to insurance," he said. "We may be in the chair for a few hours but then I go out with a receipt for only 60 dollars," said Ken Givens, 75.
