The Golden Retriever – A Loyal and Special Companion
Golden Retrievers are known for their gentle well-mannered temperament, making them easy to train and loyal companion dogs, because of this they make a wonderful addition to any family. They were bred to work as retrievers for hunters, a task that requires lots of energy and endurance. Although hunters very rarely use them these days they still have a super high level of energy to burn and require lots of exercise!
If you lead a busy life and would have to leave Your Golden Retriever for long periods then they are not the dog for you. They also eat a lot of food, so be warned. Golden Retrievers are a large athletic type of dog breed, but are slightly longer than they are tall. Not only are they beautiful dogs, they are also kind, affectionate and love to be in your attention.
Golden retrievers are very laid back and friendly to everyone and all other dogs. They are not a dog that barks all the time, which is convenient for you and neighbours, but do bark when startled. Although they are more than likely to defend their loved ones in a life-threatening situation, they are not by nature suspicious of strangers or protective, which makes them unsuited to any sort of guard work.
Great care should be taken when training your Golden retriever as they can be sensitive and tend to worry so just be aware of their needs. Because of their intelligence they are easily trained, also due to Golden Retrievers athleticism and desire to please their handlers they generally excel in obedience trials. Very competitive by nature you will find them to be great in agility and other similar events.
A Golden Retriever is Confident and outgoing, fun to be with, gentle, and a loyal and loving companion. Your Golden retriever will love nothing more than going for long walks, and being a playful pet they will enjoy the usual games of fetch and frisbee catching etc. Their intelligence allows you to teach them tricks that will not only astound you but bring delight to your children and family as well.
Care and maintenance is Important and regular brushing helps to promote a shiny, healthy coat and decreases shedding. Matting can occur regularly so search and destroy through brushing to help keep them at bay. It is important to brush them regularly, at least 3 or 4 times a week and this will help in reducing shedding. Golden Retriever’s have heavy sheds twice a year, but they do shed all year long.
You couldn’t wish for a better companion than a Golden Retriever. They are the type of dog that will give you more pleasure and loving obedience than you could ever repay them with.
